“I No Longer Want the ODM Position” – Osotsi Clarifies His Political Future and Backs Linda Mwananchi Leadership

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has moved to clarify his current political position, declaring that he is no longer interested in serving as a deputy party leader of ODM and has instead shifted his focus to the Linda Mwananchi movement.

Speaking during an interview on a local radio station on Wednesday, Osotsi explained that his political priorities have changed and that he is now fully committed to the activities and leadership structure of the Linda Mwananchi faction.

The senator stated that he does not wish to continue holding any leadership position within ODM, a party where he previously served as one of the deputy party leaders alongside Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir and Kisii Governor Simba Arati.

According to Osotsi, his attention is now directed toward strengthening the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has emerged as a vocal critic of the broad-based political arrangement between ODM and President William Ruto's administration.

“I no longer want to be the deputy party leader of ODM. I am now focused on my role in Linda Mwananchi, and James Orengo is the acting party leader,” Osotsi said.

His remarks are likely to fuel further speculation about the growing divide within ODM as some leaders continue to distance themselves from the party's cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Osotsi has been among the most outspoken critics of the broad-based arrangement, arguing that the opposition should remain focused on holding the government accountable rather than working closely with it.

The senator's latest comments also appear to signal that he sees his political future outside ODM's current leadership structure.

Political observers say the statement strengthens perceptions that the Linda Mwananchi faction is increasingly operating as an independent political force despite many of its members having roots in ODM.

The movement has attracted several leaders who have openly opposed ODM's engagement with President Ruto's administration.

Among the key figures associated with the outfit are Siaya Governor James Orengo, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, and other leaders who have consistently challenged the broad-based cooperation agreement.

Interestingly, ODM has not announced a replacement for Osotsi's deputy party leader position despite his continued criticism of the party's current direction.

The developments come at a time when political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election are beginning to take shape. Several opposition figures are exploring possible alliances aimed at presenting a formidable challenge to President Ruto's re-election bid.

Some members of the Linda Mwananchi movement have also hinted at the possibility of working with other opposition formations.

Recently, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna suggested that opposition leaders could set aside their differences and unite around a common goal of challenging Ruto's administration in the next election.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Osotsi's declaration is likely to intensify discussions about the future of ODM, the strength of the Linda Mwananchi movement, and the alliances that could shape Kenya's political contest heading into 2027.
