UPDATE: ODM Schedules Migori County Delegate Elections for March 22, 2026

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced that the election of county delegates in Migori County will take place on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

The party confirmed the schedule through a notice issued by its National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) on Friday, March 13, 2026.

The polls are set to run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., giving eligible branch delegates a three-hour window to vote.

The announcement follows the earlier postponement of the county delegates’ elections, which were initially scheduled for Friday, March 13, 2026.

According to the NECC, the elections could not proceed on the original date due to logistical challenges.

NECC Chairperson Emily Awitta explained that the new date was set to ensure a smooth and transparent process for all participants.

The upcoming elections will allow branch delegates in Migori County to contest for various leadership positions within the party at the county level.

These positions are critical as they play a significant role in shaping party policies, selecting candidates for general elections, and coordinating grassroots activities.

In the notice, the NECC emphasized that all eligible delegates are expected to participate and exercise their voting rights.

The committee highlighted that the three-hour voting window would provide enough time for delegates from different areas to cast their votes.

Observers and party officials will be present to ensure the process is conducted fairly and transparently.

The postponement of the earlier election had raised concerns among party members, who were eager to take part in the selection of their county leadership.

Some delegates expressed frustration over delays, while others welcomed the new date, hoping that the extra time would allow for better preparation and clearer organization of the polls.

Chairperson Emily Awitta reassured party members that the NECC is committed to conducting credible elections that reflect the will of the delegates.

She stated that the committee has put in place measures to avoid disruptions and ensure that all registered delegates can participate without difficulty.

Political analysts note that county delegate elections are an important step in the party’s internal democracy.

They serve as a foundation for selecting candidates for parliamentary and local government positions.

Strong and transparent delegate elections also help strengthen the party’s image and credibility ahead of national elections.

Party officials have urged delegates to familiarize themselves with the nomination and voting procedures.

They have also reminded candidates to follow the party’s code of conduct, ensuring a peaceful and orderly electoral process.
