Ruto Defends Himself After Impeachment Calls Grow Ahead of 2027 Polls

President William Ruto has pushed back against mounting criticism and calls for impeachment, insisting his recent hard-hitting remarks against opposition leaders are justified responses rather than signs of misconduct. 

The debate, which has dominated Kenyan headlines, reflects rising political tensions as the country gradually shifts focus toward the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during his development tour in Western Kenya, Ruto dismissed claims that his outspoken style undermines the dignity of the presidency. 

Critics have accused him of losing composure and engaging in unpresidential conduct, but the head of state argued that he is merely responding to persistent attacks from his rivals. 

According to him, the opposition initiated the confrontational tone, and he has no intention of backing down.

Addressing a crowd in Busia County, the president maintained that he is ready to face his critics head-on, even if it exposes him to further scrutiny. 

He defended his controversial remarks, including personal jabs at opposition figures, saying they were meant to mirror the kind of criticism directed at him. 

Ruto framed his approach as political resilience, emphasizing that leadership also involves standing firm under pressure.

The president’s remarks come amid increasing calls from a section of leaders and analysts who believe his conduct could warrant impeachment proceedings. 

However, his allies have dismissed such calls as politically motivated, arguing that the opposition is attempting to gain traction by portraying him negatively ahead of the next الانتخابات cycle.

Despite the political storm, Ruto continued to highlight his administration’s development agenda. 

During his Western tour, he launched and inspected several projects, including road construction, affordable housing, electrification programmes, and market development initiatives. 

He also promised the establishment of a special economic zone aimed at creating employment opportunities for young people.

Ruto further emphasized the importance of unity and development, accusing some leaders of promoting divisive politics instead of offering solutions to Kenyans.

He reiterated his commitment to working with leaders across the political divide who prioritize national progress.
