Kalonzo Allied Senator Names Who Ruto Might Pick From ODM As His Running Mate In 2027

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, a key ally of Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, has predicted President William Ruto’s 2027 electoral strategy amid rising political temperatures.

Speaking on Thursday, the senator stated that the President will choose ODM's Hassan Joho as his running mate for the upcoming general election.

Senator Maanzo explained the strategic reasoning behind his assertion, pointing to the crucial need for regional and political balance on a successful presidential ticket.

"When you are looking for a Deputy President, you must balance a country," Maanzo stated.

"If the running mate of President William Ruto in 2027 is going to be from ODM, then, most probably, it's going to be Hassan Joho."

The senator’s statement does not exist in a political vacuum.

It comes just days after a section of ODM leadership reportedly issued a significant demand to President Ruto:

The Deputy President position in exchange for the party’s support in 2027.

This alleged demand has reportedly widened a rift within the late Raila Odinga's party, exposing deep-seated internal divisions over its future direction.

The proposal has been met with fierce internal resistance.

In a direct and public response to the demand from fellow ODM leaders, Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai yesterday threatened to pack his bags and leave the party.

He further suggested that he would join forces with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, a clear sign of the serious fractures appearing within ODM.

Therefore, Senator Maanzo’s prediction about Hassan Joho is seen by observers as a calculated commentary on these ongoing developments.

Naming a specific individual from ODM, Maanzo’s statement adds another layer of complexity to the volatile negotiations .

And public disagreements currently shaping the early political landscape ahead of the 2027 election.
