The by-election campaigns in the Kasipul constituency resulted in the deaths of multiple individuals following a clash between two rival candidates.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has revealed that it received intelligence reports linking the Homa Bay County Government to the ongoing turmoil in the Kasipul by-election campaigns.
The Commission has condemned the administration of Governor Gladys Wanga for its interference in the campaigns.
The IEBC claims that Wanga has improperly utilized public resources to meddle in the political affairs of Kasipul, which contravenes legal statutes.
"This committee strongly condemns the use of public resources and the involvement of public officials in political campaigns, as this contravenes Section 14 of the Elections Offences Act," the IEBC stated.
The latest update from the IEBC comes in the wake of recent violence that transpired in the Opondo area of the Kasipul constituency.
Moreover, several individuals sustained injuries during a confrontation between the campaign team of ODM party candidate Boyd Were and that of Independent candidate Philip Aroko.
