DP Kindiki: Betty Bayo’s Death a Great Loss to Kenya’s Gospel Industry

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has joined Kenyans in mourning celebrated gospel singer Beatrice Mbugua, popularly known as Betty Bayo, who passed away over the weekend.

In a heartfelt message shared on his Facebook page, Kindiki described Bayo’s death as an untimely loss that has robbed Kenya of one of its most iconic gospel artists.

He praised her for her contribution to the music industry and for inspiring young people through her faith and determination.

“The untimely demise of Beatrice Mbugua, popularly known as Betty Bayo, has robbed Kenya of one of the most iconic gospel musicians of our time.

Having risen from humble beginnings to great success and fame, Betty Bayo’s life speaks to the power of focus on career and to how blessed Kenya is as a land of opportunity and possibility," Kindiki wrote

Kindiki added that the gospel industry will deeply feel her absence, describing Bayo as an artist who used her talent to uplift and unite people through music.

“The gospel music industry is very much the poorer without her,” he stated, extending condolences to her family and the gospel fraternity.

Betty Bayo, known for hit songs such as Elewa and Umenifanya Ning’are, had been a household name in Kenya’s gospel scene for years.

Reports indicate that she passed away on Monday at Kenyatta National Hospital while battling blood cancer.

Her death has sparked an outpouring of grief from fellow artists, fans, and church leaders, many of whom described her as a kind, humble, and passionate musician who used her platform to spread hope.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by her family in the coming days.

Kindiki’s message adds to the growing list of tributes from public figures who have lauded Bayo’s legacy in shaping Kenya’s gospel music and inspiring a new generation of artists.
