Ruto Promise Extends Nairobi–Mau Summit Road Upgrade to Malaba in Bold Infrastructure Push

Kenyans are buzzing after President William Ruto confirmed that the Nairobi–Mau Summit Road .

Project will not end in Nakuru as earlier planned, but will now stretch all the way to Malaba on the Kenya–Uganda border. 

The announcement marks a major boost for cross-border trade and regional connectivity across Western Kenya.

Speaking during the briefing, the commander in chief emphasized that the road is a lifeline for transporters, traders.

 Commuters who move goods and passengers between Nairobi, the Rift Valley, and the western frontier.

The extended dualling will cover hundreds of kilometers, easing traffic congestion and cutting travel time for thousands of motorists.

Local leaders, among them former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and CS Treasury John Mbadi, praised the move, saying the project will open up trade corridors and make business easier for farmers and transport operators. 

In towns such as Bungoma, Kakamega, and Busia, traders have welcomed the news, confident that faster transport will lower costs and expand markets for local produce.

Political observers note that beyond its economic benefits, the road expansion carries heavy political symbolism. 

Extending the dual carriageway all the way to Malaba positions President Ruto as a leader delivering tangible development in regions that have long felt sidelined.

 Analysts believe this could deepen his political roots in Western Kenya ahead of the 2027 elections.

As construction rolls out, Kenyans are watching to ensure the promise turns into real progress on the ground.
