The ruling coalition led by President William Samoe Ruto is fastening bolts to ensure they seal influence in the areas perceived as their stronghold.
On Saturday, August 1,, the deputy president, Professor Kithure Kindiki offficially received leaders who defected from Jubilee Party and KANU into the ruling party, UDA.
This is a major shift as the president's party continues with its offensive against the former president, Uhuru Kenyatta, who has been largely seen as a key player in the opposition unity, determined to oust President Ruto in 2027.
On the other hand, Uhuru assembled his team in Azimio to consolidate the input of rising figures in the United Opposition, who were not in any coalition.
Former Governor Kawira Mwangaza, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi were among the new members who have been considered in the restructuring of the Azimio Coalition.
While all these continue to unfold, the elephant in the rooms is yet to be solved- the United Opposition flagbearer.
The former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has already said multiple times that he sees himself as the best fit for the position but is ready to support whoever the coalition finds best suited for the position.
Other members of the opposition including Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang'i, Eugene Wamalwa, among others have also declared their readiness to support the one the coalition settles for to face President Ruto in 2027.
