Siaya Governor James Orengo Calls for President Ruto’s Impeachment Over ‘Verbal Diarrhea’

Nairobi – Siaya Governor James Orengo has called for the impeachment of President William Ruto following a series of inflammatory remarks directed at opposition leaders.

Speaking at a Linda Mwananchi press briefing in Starehe Constituency on Wednesday, March 18, Orengo condemned Ruto’s statements as “verbal diarrhea” and a violation of the constitution.

Orengo explained that state officers, including the president, are bound by the Constitution of Kenya to uphold leadership and integrity.

He argued that Ruto’s attacks amounted to hate speech and incitement, undermining national unity and the dignity of the presidency.

“The president must be called to order. The grounds of impeachment normally include gross violation of the law and the constitution. Our constitution requires state officers to conduct themselves in a manner that brings honour to the nation and dignity to their office. Much of what the president has said, the verbal diarrhea, amounts to hate speech,” Orengo said.

The governor emphasized that public officials must foster national cohesion and respect alternative opinions.

He warned that failure to address such misconduct could justify impeachment or sanctions through a resolution in the National Assembly.

Orengo highlighted that Ruto’s remarks were particularly troubling given his oath to uphold the law.

“He cannot climb to the highest office and descend to engage in verbal attacks that dishonor the Republic of Kenya. He is unfit to be in the office now, not in 2027,” he asserted, urging Kenyans to hold leaders accountable through lawful means.

Supporting Orengo, Godfrey Osotsi noted that Ruto’s public statements violated his oath of office, exposing him to potential penalties under the National Cohesion and Integration Act.

Leaders found guilty of hate speech could face fines of at least KSh 1 million, imprisonment for three years, or both.

Some also called on Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen to take action against the president for his remarks, stressing that his words could influence young and impressionable citizens.

Ruto’s verbal attacks included personal criticisms of opposition leaders, accusing them of misconduct, poor habits, and even violent acts.

While the president defended his outbursts as responses to provocations from opposition figures, critics say his behavior undermines the principles of responsible leadership and national unity.

The calls for impeachment reflect growing concerns about the conduct of state leaders and the need to maintain constitutional standards and respect in public office.
