Ngunjiri Wambugu Claims Cleophas Malala May Leave DCP Amid ‘Mole’ Allegations

Former Nyeri Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has weighed in on growing political tensions surrounding Cleophas Malala after accusations emerged that the former UDA Secretary General could be acting as a mole within the Democratic Change Party (DCP).

Wambugu claimed that Malala is unlikely to remain in the party until the 2027 general elections, suggesting that his involvement in DCP may be temporary. According to the former legislator, Malala could eventually exit the party after causing internal disagreements.

His remarks came after allegations surfaced that Malala was attempting to divide the party associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Wambugu suggested that the political drama surrounding Malala may continue until the party leadership decides to remove him. He further claimed that Malala could later join either the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) or the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) to pursue his political ambitions.

According to Wambugu, Malala may be positioning himself to run for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat in the future.

The controversy intensified on March 12, 2026, when Njeri Maina publicly accused Malala of secretly working against the interests of DCP.

In her remarks, Maina alleged that Malala had been collaborating with Anne Waiguru in activities aimed at weakening supporters of Gachagua.

Maina claimed that Malala had met with a group of Members of County Assembly (MCAs) allied to Governor Waiguru in an alleged effort to organize opposition against Gachagua’s political camp.

She also accused him of questionable conduct, including soliciting money, saying these actions had prompted her to speak out about the situation.

“You have a bad habit of soliciting money, and this is one of the main reasons I have decided to speak up,” Maina stated, adding that she believed Malala had crossed a political line.

The accusations have sparked debate among political observers, with some questioning Malala’s role within the party while others view the claims as part of ongoing political rivalry ahead of future elections.
