Millicent Omanga ditches UDA, joins DCP Party

Nairobi – Businesswoman and former Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has officially severed ties with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and declared her alignment with the United Opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move marks a significant shift in Kenya’s political landscape, as Omanga had been a staunch UDA supporter and vocal advocate for President William Ruto during the 2022 elections.

Speaking in Gatundu South during a traditional dowry ceremony, Omanga confirmed her decision to seek the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat once again, a position she narrowly missed in the last election.

She expressed gratitude to the Mt Kenya community for their support in 2022, noting that their backing inspired her renewed political ambitions.

“I am so impressed with the community from Mt Kenya because you gave me 600,000 votes in Nairobi in 2022. I want to say thank you. I just fell short by a small number, but this time around, in 2027, I will still be contesting for the seat,” she said.

Omanga highlighted the growing unity among opposition leaders as a key factor in her decision, pointing to collaborations among key political figures, including Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, Jubilee Party’s Fred Matiang’i, and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

She expressed confidence that ethnic and political cohesion among these groups would significantly enhance her electoral prospects.

“And this time all cousins will be together. It will not be just 600,000, we will have other cousins on board. You have seen Fred Matiang’i bringing the Gusii community together. He is coming to unite with his cousins from Mt Kenya. And from Eastern, Kalonzo Musyoka has united his people also,” Omanga stated.

She also criticized the current political establishment, urging voters to remain politically independent even when accepting financial handouts, emphasizing that such funds are taxpayer money.

Omanga’s announcement came on February 7, 2026, during a ceremony where Gachagua formally welcomed her to the DCP.

Her move adds a new dynamic to the race for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat, which incumbent Esther Passaris has confirmed she will not defend.

Other potential contenders include Nominated Senators Karen Nyamu, Tabitha Mutinda, Crystal Asige, activist Hanifa Adan, and social media personality Maverick Aoko.

With her UDA departure and alignment with the United Opposition, Omanga positions herself as a strong contender, signaling intensified competition for Nairobi County’s key leadership posts in the upcoming election cycle.
