Vinace Mwende, a civil engineering graduate from the Technical University of Kenya, is facing challenges after finishing her studies.
Like many university graduates, she has struggled to find a job and has returned to her home village in Meru to seek new opportunities.
Vinace shared her story with TUKO, explaining how she is trying to rebuild her life in a tough job market.
After completing her degree, she found herself among the many graduates who are unable to secure employment.
The lack of a job forced her to return home, where she is now finding ways to support herself.
"I am trying to get back on my feet," Vinace said.
She has taken up selling boiled eggs as a way to earn money while she continues to search for job opportunities.
Despite the difficulties, she remains hopeful and is exploring different avenues to make a living.
One of Vinace's struggles has been an issue with her graduation. She mentioned that she has some missing marks that have delayed her graduation.
"I am following up on the matter, but it is frustrating," she explained. Without her certificate, she feels limited in her job search. She hopes to resolve this issue soon, as it is a significant barrier in her path to employment.
To adapt to her new situation, Vinace has also turned to content creation.
She started a YouTube channel, where she shares her experiences and connects with others in similar situations. "I never expected my content would reach so many people," she said.
Support from her followers has been encouraging, with some even helping her financially to kickstart her boiled eggs business and another side hustle selling children’s jackets.
Vinace's boiled eggs business is relatively new, but she is optimistic.
She sets up her stall in the evenings when customers are returning home from work.
On good days, she can earn about KSh 600. The jacket sales are also promising, although they are more seasonal.
