Millie Odhiambo Draws Red Line: ODM Won’t Support Broad-Based Government That Weakens Party

Suba North Member of Parliament, Millie Odhiambo, has issued a sharp warning to the Kenya Kwanza leadership.

Emphasizing that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will not support any move towards a broad-based government that seeks to diminish the party’s influence or reward a select few with state appointments.

Speaking during a recent political engagement, Odhiambo highlighted ODM’s position as a national party with a well-defined identity, ideology, and a long history of struggle for democratic governance in Kenya.

She stated that the party’s contributions and institutional strength should not be compromised for the sake of political expediency.

“ODM is more than a bargaining chip for minor positions or Cabinet appointments.

Any political arrangement must recognize our stature and cannot coerce us into deals that undermine our institutional integrity,” Odhiambo asserted.

Her statement comes amid ongoing discussions within Kenya’s political circles about forming inclusive governance structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While broad-based coalitions have often been promoted as a means to foster national unity, Odhiambo cautioned that inclusivity should not be used as a guise to dilute the influence of key political players or marginalize historically significant parties like ODM.

Political analysts note that her remarks underscore growing tensions between Kenya Kwanza and opposition parties over power-sharing arrangements.

Odhiambo’s firm stance reflects ODM’s commitment to protecting its political capital, ensuring that any alliance respects its organizational hierarchy, membership, and legacy.

The MP’s warning also signals a broader message to the electorate: ODM will prioritize national interests and party principles over opportunistic political deals.

As the dialogue around coalition-building continues, the coming months are expected to test the balance between inclusivity, party loyalty, and strategic political negotiations in Kenya’s dynamic political landscape.
