ODM Youth League leader Kasmuel McOure has clarified that his recent public attack on Senator Edwin Sifuna was not personal, while simultaneously branding a new name for a section of party leaders he accuses of being opportunistic.
This comes just weeks after he challenged Sifuna to resign from his position as the party’s Secretary-General.
He is now drawing a line between his professional critique and his personal views, while widening his criticism to include others in the party.
Kasmuel McOure went on record to state he has no personal grudge against the Nairobi Senator, even praising his intellect.
“I don’t have anything personal against Sifuna. First of all, I think he is very brilliant,” he admitted, before clarifying the intent behind his previous outburst.
“I am critiquing the office, not the holder of the office.”
This move is seen as an attempt to de-escalate the personal nature of their conflict, which began when he dared Sifuna to quit if he felt ODM was no longer aligned with his principles.
The youth leader then aimed his criticism at a different group within the party, branding them as newfound “firebrands.”
He questioned the authenticity and timing of their recent outspokenness.
“There are other party members who have emerged now who want to pretend they are firebrands. Before then, why didn't they oppose the broad-based government?” he posed, suggesting their current tough stance is for show and not a genuine party position.
Kasmuel McOure explained that his actions are driven by a desire to protect the late Raila Odinga’s legacy and ensure his vision is realised, particularly the compensation for victims of protests.
He issued a stern warning to the so-called "firebrands" and others who he feels are seeking to benefit from Raila's influence without doing the necessary work.
“It will be such a dishonour for you to want to get Baba’s perks without putting in the work that Baba did,” he cautioned.
